Scotch Yoke
The Scotch yoke actuator is a mechanism for converting the linear motion of a slider into rotational motion or vice-versa. The piston or other reciprocating part is directly coupled to a sliding yoke with a slot that engages a pin on the rotating part.
The scotch yoke is most commonly used for controls valves (quarter-turn type valves) in high pressure oil and gas pipelines. In addition, Scotch yoke actuators, because of their simplicity, are often used in emergency shut-down systems.
Scotch yoke actuators are designed to operate:
- Ball Valves.
- Butterfly Valves.
- Plug Valves.
- Dampers
- Or any devices that requires a quarter-turn movement for on-off throttling service.
